When our Xbox died we thought it was done for. We were happy to learn that for 30 dollars we could have it back! The drive was harder to replace than originally thought but we are lucky to have an in house computer geek to assist (Dad). Any lay person could not have installed this one themselves. It is not just a matter of removing and reinstalling. The flash memory needed to be updated, or something like that. The son is uber happy to have his Xbox back! Mom and Dad may not. It was quite peaceful without it.

OMG. Got this thing thinking it was gonna be super hard to install. Really jus takes a lil common sense to do.It took me all of 15 mins to chage out the drive. The Hardest thing was gettin the XBOX case open. One you get it open the rest is self explainitory. Change the chip out on the bottom of the drive, sealed it back up, and it was like havin a brand new 360 all over again!!! Big money saver!!!!
I wish I had read all of the negative reviews before purchasing. I would have saved myself a lot of time and hassle. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM if know nothing about “flashing” the drive. It DOES NOT WORK out of the box. In fact MICROSOFT may even ban you from XBOX LIVE for modifying your 360.

Installed this drive, put the game disk in, and got the message that the disk needed to be played in a DVD player. I noticed that the drive I took out of the Xbox was made in 2007, this drive was made in 2006. The seller, computer geeks, provided excellent service. I received an immediate email response and a pre-paid shipping label and scheduled a pick up and it was picked up from my house. Their warranty states that they will check the item and, if they find it to be working properly, return it to you. I did not get an email before the drive was returned and I did not record the serial number of the original so I do not know if they returned the original or a replacement. Either way, it gave the same error when I tried to use it. Before I could use it, however, I had trouble plugging in the data cable. When I took a closer look at the back of the drive, I discovered that a small piece of plastic had slipped down inside the case an was blocking one end of the set of pins. I pushed the plastic out of the way with a wooden toothpick and was able to plug in the connector. Because of the manufacture date on the drive, I suspected that the drive might need a firmware upgrade. I came here to write a review and discovered the suggestions about exchanging the circuit boards. I’ve done that with hard drives of the same make and model but, my original drive was a Hitach and this one is a Toshiba.
