I put off buying these protectors because I hated the thought of paying $10 for a piece of sticky plastic. But after carrying my PSPgo around in my pocket, I noticed a few light scratches it had caused. Applying was kind of a pain. I did it slowly and with a credit card like another reviewer recommended. And I still ended up with a few small air bubbles. However, they’re only really visible when the screen is black. Once you turn it on and start playing, they’re pretty much unnoticeable.

I recommend not being a cheap-o like me and put off buying them. Unless you put your PSPgo in a case, you’re going to get scratches on the screen. You paid $200 for the thing, so just pay a little bit more and protect the screen.

OK, I already owned a PSP, and I had an 8 gig memory card to boot, so I could have done exactly what this system can do. Honestly, when this system came out, I was pissed off at the all download format. This eliminates me being able to trade in old games, or buy used ones? What a horrible idea? But then, the more reviews I read the more interesting this system became to me. Basically, I traded in my system (which had a few dead pixels and a really loud drive) and all of my umd’s for roughly the cost of the system. I had to pay tax. Oh well. Here is what I have noticed that is different.

    1) the screen on the go is definitely smaller, and I who work in television notice this, it is smaller, but it is definitely sharper.

    Advantage: PSP 2000

    2) The price of downloads is definitely higher than buying a copy used.

    Advantage: PSP 2000

    3) You CANNOT change the battery, but on average I get more power out of a single charge than did with either of my 2000 batteries. I don’t like that I cannot change batteries, but without all the loading, I can play longer on a charge.

    Advantage: Tie

    4) Overall, the go system is smaller and easier to port around.

    Advantage: Go

    5) The buttons on the go were funky at first, but I have really come to appreciate the feel of them. I am not as crazy about the bumpers, but as a whole, the location and feel are better.

    Advantage: Go

    6) To put the system in sleep mode, I can do it the old way by quick sliding the power switch, OR I can add the option to put it to sleep by closing it, which I do.

    Advantage: Go

    7) I can easily pause a game and shut the system completely down. EVERY game has this option because it is part of the hardware. I feel this can and is a system software, and the older PSP’s should get this eventually.

Advantage: Go, for now. Tie if the 2000 ever got this

    8) I no longer have to carry around UMD’s. I used to have 2 cases in my bag, one for the system, and one for extra umd’s.

    Advantage: Go

    9) Location of volume, screen brightness and equalizer moved to the top of the system, home button on the top panel. This gets ultra annoying when shutting the system down. I have lowered the volume all the way several times or change the equalizer. Not easy to access when screen is up.

    Advantage: PSP 2000

    10) No UMD Drive, means I don’t have to hear the damn thing spinning all the time. Also, loading seems to have been improved, but this should be obvious since you don’t need to access a disc.

    Advantage: Go

    11) The downloadable library online does not have all the games I want. When I traded them in, there were only 4 games I didnt want to lose. I got 3 of them from downloads, I cannot get the 4th. *(Exit)

    Advantage: PSP 2000

    12) You can link Bluetooth devices, including a PS3 controller to this.

Advantage: Go, but then again, if I am at home, I will play my ps3, not my PSP Go

Well, I made this review long enough, so I will stop with points, but alas I am happy with my upgrade. I am upset that none of my old accessories will work for this system, Sony has a wonderful reputation for not adding backwards compatability, but then again I can understand why. The Go is not only a cosmetic upgrade, but an electronic one as well. One that has different power requirements. I still support my local game stores as well, by going in to buy network cards for game downloads, and I like it that way.

Let’s be honest, the gaming industry hates trading and selling. Sony is only the first company to dive into download only format. The other companies will follow suit eventually, make no mistake about it.

The pro’s and con’s are quite the list, and overall it comes down to personal preference. I like that I dont have to carry so much stuff with me now, but I don’t like not being able to sell my games. Which is more important to you is up to you to decide.

In the end, the goal is to have fun. the PSP 3000 (yes, I had a 2000 not made anymore) is definitely a worthwhile machine. I liked my 2000, but I plan on using this for all my media, including my mp3 player.

    Good luck!

First off this is my first PsP system so I do not know how it compares to the 1000-3000 models. All I know is that I wanted to be able to play classic PlayStation games like Castlevania:SOTN without looking like I was playing a little kids toy in front of family/friends. Being 34 years old the library of down-loadable PSone games was my selling point. I spent many hours 10+ years ago on these games so jumped at the chance to get a portable. My experience so far has been that the games are easy to download and they work like a charm.

This is a wonderful item but don’t be like me and expect something as polished as the ipod touch/ Itunes combo. The PsP and Media Go do what they are supposed to without the style of apple. In my opinion the potential for this device is unlimited and I hope Sony continues support for it. The Media Go store is a little bare boned at the moment so I am hoping they add more classic games to it in the near future. As far as current generation PsP games I cannot speak to the quality of them as I purchased this as mainly a Playstion One system. The quality of the system compared to the price is a bit questionable, the plastic feels a tad flimsy and cheap. It does not seem to have an impact on gameplay and the buttons have all held up very well. Overall I give this a 4/5 stars.

So, like the previous reviewer, I also recently bought a PSP Go after having owned a silver PSP 2000 for a couple of years. And, I loved my 2000. The only things I didn’t like were 1) having to carry around silly little UMDs and 2) the size of the UMD-based PSPs.

Prior to buying the PSP Go, I had only ever played a mounted display unit at a retail store. The device seemed nice, but since getting the Go meant giving up a couple of years worth of games, it was a big risk for me. Nevertheless, I (obviously) took the risk and bought the device, and I am very happy with it. The Go is a very sleek and techy gadget. The slider is nice, the design is simple, and best of all – this PSP easily fits in my pocket or bag.

It’s true that many (most) of the games on PSN are a bit more expensive than the used versions of their UMD counterparts, but right now I find myself only playing a few full-scale PSP games (and some rare games are cheaper on PSN – like The Warriors and MGS: Portable Ops), and none of the prices are too absurd. It’s true that you can’t resell these titles, but personally I’m not too worried about that.

The controls on the Go did take a while to get used to, after regularly playing games on the 2000 and on the PS3’s Dualshock 3. However, after an hour or so of play, I think I like the Go controls more than the 2000’s. The analog stick seems tighter and the buttons are much more clicky (in a good way).

The screen on the Go is fantastic, and games and video look much better than on the 2000. I was blown away by how crisp and striking Super Stardust Portable looks on the Go screen!

Finally, I bought the Go in part to take advantage of the current Digital Game Pack offer, which means every Go comes with download codes for LittleBigPlanet PSP, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and Socom 3. However, while I bought the Go five days ago, I still haven’t received the email from Sony with the voucher codes. Also, if you get a Go, it’s important to know that a screen protector and/or a case are a must for this little system (Why couldn’t they have made it a nice clamshell design?). However, the official Sony-made PSPgo Protective Case – Black is absolutely terrible (it will protect the Go quite well, but the Go is hard to remove from the case and is nearly unusable in the case).

Overall the Go is a really neat device that has generally been panned by the gaming media and by some PSP enthusiasts. Despite the negative press, it is the perfect device for some gamers’ mobile needs, and it’s also promising to see Sony trying to address some of the piracy problems it was faced with on the earlier PSP models.

Edit: After owning this system for a week, I still haven’t received the games from the Digital Game Pack promo (They come as voucher codes in an email from Sony Playstation). Playstation Customer Service (which was totally unhelpful and less than nice) said it could take up to two weeks to get the promo. Really? Two weeks for an automated email? I can get a passport from the massive US bureaucratic passport office in that amount of time! Anyway, the system itself is great, but the promotional offer and Playstation customer support have been pretty disappointing.

What can I say? I went against the tide and bought a PSPgo. Everyone was complaining about how you couldn’t transfer your umd’s to digital and get this. If you have the original PSP, why do you need this again? Just stop complaining. For the rest of us who didn’t have a PSP? This thing is great for the price available on this site. 14 gigs built in, lots of fantastic games in the PSN store, and a nice lookin’ system. The analog stick doesn’t feel out of place for long, but doing things such as the “claw” hold for Monster Hunter would be pretty hard to do on this.

Overall, I can’t find many flaws to this..one flaw is not being able to check exact battery life, but that’s alright by me.
    5/5 for this one.

So basically the left earbug has the mic mute button on it and the right is just the earbud. Upon plugging them in only the right earbud worked and i fiddled with the mic mute button a bit and the left one seemed to work as well after turning on the psp and powering back on. shortly after the left on completely cut out and now it never works. I’ve tried multiple times turning it on and off and doing the same to the mic mute button and it wont work. I can’t find any other reviews online to see if this is a problem affecting more than just me but i have yet to find a review with anything negative.

You need it, and a pc, to charge the psp go. Not sure if the wall charger has come out yet. I hope so. You also need it to download games, tv shows, themes, photos and movies onto the psp go.

Unlike, say, the PSP-3000, the PSP Go needs a proprietary cable – this one. It has the standard USB-A at one end but Sony came up with the multi-use data/charger connector at the other end where a USB MINI-B would be expected. Of course, a standard USB connector would be as capable of ‘multi-use’ (charge and data transfer) as the Sony proprietary connection but then a standard cable couldn’t be sold at a premium.

If you lose the original cable that came with the Go, this item would be the recommended replacement or you may want to get one preemptively, as a backup.

To make it short, Sony’s cable is guaranteed to work with the Go and it can be had for this premium price but there are lower price alternatives out there – just make sure that you order from a reputable vendor.

I already had a screen protector on my PSP Go but decided I also wanted to protect the outer skin from scratches. This cover is great! It doesn’t had much thickness to the PSP Go and it protects everything just fine. I carry my Go everywhere since it doubles as my portable MP3 player and my gaming handheld. If your Go is on the go a lot then I recommend this product.

This is a great buy. I use my PSP Go constantly outside of my home and I needed something to protect it from general wear and tear and the inevitable fumble. This case snaps on both the front and the back of the PSP leaving only the button area exposed when open (obviously it would be impossible to have a case in that section). The case fits perfectly around the PSP and I was impressed at how it maintained the Go’s small size. For those that are not sure if this case will add a great deal of size to the PSP Go, fear not. It also has an optional stand in the back to place the Go upright on a table. I haven’t used this yet but it was also a nice added bonus. I was pretty happy with the purchase.
